Dress to Impress
Another offering for young readers, this is another book with information presented from the viewpoint of Finn and Zeek, the friendly aliens. Again, the bright, colourful pictures add so much to the information that is being presented, leaving no doubt as to what is being discussed. It is a clear discussion of the many wonderful ways that people dress around the world. Perfect for helping children learn about other cultures and people from around the world.
Wild and Wacky Animals
This was my favourite of the new non-fiction books that I read. The excellent descriptions and amazing pictures really made the animals jump off the page and come to life. It highlights some of the more unusual animals on the planet, such as the Axolotl and Hoatzin Bird. Packed with loads of interesting facts, this book is sure to capture the attention of every reader.
All of these books were amazingly presented and got rave reviews from my class. We particularly liked the way they were written as alien guides. We thought this was really interesting. The boldly coloured pictures were great as well. Here’s what some of the children had to say:
Roxie age 9: I really liked the animal book because it had lots of pictures in it and some animals that I didn’t know about.
Hassan age 9: I like to read about different kinds of weather so the weather book was my favourite. I thought the pictures were great and the lightning picture was so cool! I thought the aliens were cool too.
Poppy age 9: The book about the clothes was my favourite. Some of them were really strange looking and weird, like the clogs. My favourite was the Japanese Kimonos. They are so pretty.
